How can science, art, and society engage in an even stronger dialogue? This question, among many others, was explored during the 84th Science Center Network Meeting at Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU), where the Center for Technology-driven Social Innovation (CTSi) was also represented.

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity for exchange, networking, and reflection on current developments in science communication and knowledge transfer. A particular highlight was the visit to the Circus of Knowledge (Zirkus des Wissens), which showcased innovative and interactive approaches to communicating science and research. Participants were introduced to the performance “Matilda’s Dream”, which demonstrates how artistic formats can inspire new ways of engaging with scientific topics and societal challenges.

The subsequent discussion focused on how knowledge transfer can be further strengthened through transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration. Particular attention was given to the potential of closer cooperation between science, technology, and the arts. Bringing together diverse perspectives was highlighted as an important approach to making complex societal challenges more accessible, reaching new audiences, and fostering innovative solutions.

The network meeting once again underscored the value of collaboration across disciplinary boundaries for vibrant and impactful science communication. CTSi took the opportunity to draw attention to the STE[A+]M doctoral program it co-initiated, whose goals are reflected in the approaches discussed at the meeting. The program fosters collaboration between Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, thereby opening up new pathways to research, innovation, and societal participation. In this way, it helps strengthen the link between science and society while encouraging creative solutions to complex challenges.
