The CTS//circle.responsibleComputing is pleased to announce the recent publication of a catchword article with CTS co-authorship titled “Shadowbanning” in Business & Information Systems Engineering (BISE).
This work, authored by Marten Risius from Neu-Ulm University and co-author Kevin M. Blasiak from CTS and TU Vienna, discusses the phenomenon of “shadowbanning” in social media.
Shadowbanning is a form of content moderation where individual users’ posts are hidden without notifying them of the reduced visibility. This aims to control the spread of unwanted or rule-violating content while stabilizing discourse within the social network. However, the practice is controversial as it raises questions about freedom of speech and censorship, with many concerned that legitimate voices could be rendered invisible.
