René Röpke has been appointed Game Competition and Exhibition Chair for the Games and Learning Alliance Conference 2025 (GALA), alongside Kristina Risley from the University of Southampton, UK. The international conference will take place this year in Utrecht, The Netherlands, and gathers leading voices from academia, industry, and education in the field of serious and game-based learning.

A key highlight of the event is the GALA 2025 Serious Games Competition, celebrating the world’s best digital games for learning. While the theme for this year is “Games for Good”, all types of serious games are welcome to apply.

All submissions will be reviewed by experts in the Serious Games community. Shortlisted games will be promoted via the Serious Games Society’s social media channels and featured in the annual book of abstracts. The top three student entries will also receive a free conference ticket and a €300 travel grant, generously sponsored by the Center for Advanced Preparedness and Threat Response Simulation (CAPTRS).

More information about the ongoing Call for Submissions (Deadline: August 3, 2025) is available on the conference website: https://conf.seriousgamessociety.org/2025-serious-games-competition/
