CTS//circle.gender is a comprehensive examination of the intersections between gender, societal structures, and technology within the STEM (mathematics, computer science, science, and technology) disciplines. It takes its cue from scholars:ing such as Wajcman (2010) and Faulkner (2001), who have focused extensively on the relationship between gender and technology.
Through an interdisciplinary lens, this circle contributes to ongoing conversations about gender, society, and technology. It offers valuable insights for educators, policymakers, researchers, and technology designers working to advance gender equity within STEM fields and beyond.
With an increased visibility of non-binary people, strategies to overcome gender bias in language beyond a binary conception (male/female) have been proposed, such as gender-inclusive (e.g. Leser:innen) and/or gender-neutral (e.g. Lesens) language. These developments raise interesting questions for language technologies, including machine translation.
