With her expertise at the intersection of technology, society, and collaborative design, Assoc. Prof. DI Dr. Hilda Tellioğlu participated as a keynote speaker at the MERCADO Workshop (Multimodal Experiences for Remote Communication Around Data Online) on November 2, 2025, at IEEE VIS 2025, where she contributed important conceptual impulses. The IEEE VIS conference is considered a leading international forum for visualization and visual analytics and took place in 2025 at the Vienna Convention Center.
In her keynote titled “Shaping Tomorrow’s Collaboration Through Design”, Tellioğlu highlighted why practice‑based approaches from Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), and groupware are essential for enabling robust user experiences in cooperative work environments. Following a conceptual introduction to these research fields, she emphasized awareness as a central design principle, along with related concepts such as artifacts and technology‑supported cooperation, to illustrate how to systematically understand and shape work environments to improve collaboration. She then outlined life-centered and practice‑oriented design processes, derived systematization pathways for multimodal experiences in collaborative contexts, and offered perspectives on how new multimodalities may transform the ways people collaborate, learn, and create together.
The MERCADO Workshop brought together international experts from research and industry and offered a diverse program of keynote presentations, paper talks, discussion formats, pitches, breakout groups, and a concluding discussion. Hilda Tellioğlu’s contribution provided a conceptual foundation for the sessions that followed.
